What Is It Time For You To Go Back To?
By · Comments
The summer months of fun have come to an end. It’s back to school time for students across the nation. I was so excited about sending my oldest daughter back to start her junior year in college and putting my two younger kids (4th and 5th graders) on the bus their first day of school. I’m not ashamed to admit that I was one of millions of mothers doing the “my kids are finally back in school happy dance!” While I’m happy my kids are all back in school, I’m even happier to go back to something for me. As women, wives and mothers we all have at least one unattained dream or unaccomplished goal we need to go back to. What better time than now to get re-energized about going back to do something for YOU! As for me, I’m going back to school myself to accomplish my goal of earning a second bachelor’s degree in Communications. So, what about you?
Here are a few winning tips to help you think about what it’s time for you to go back to:
- Reflect - What unattained dream or unaccomplished goal do you have personally or professionally?
- Review - Evaluate the progress you’ve made so far and identify what still needs to be completed.
- Revisit - Pick up where you left off and finish strong. It’s never too late to go back and attain your dreams and accomplish your goals. I’m rooting for you!

What Are You Doing Differently This Season?

It’s a new season! Ready or not, football is here. The new season brings a time of change and new beginnings. Along with all the excitement also comes the opportunity to make improvements and build upon past successes. As a way to kick off the new season, I want to invite you to think about ways you can make this season better than the last. What habits, routines, or traditions served you well? What things didn’t work well for you? Consider doing something different this season. As for me, I will be treating myself to a relaxing spa treatment before attending each home game to help reduce my stress level and calm my nerves. So, what about you?
Here are a few winning tips to help you think about what you are going to do differently this season:
- Assess – Reflect on what worked and what didn’t work for you last season.
- Address –Continue to do the things that worked. Tackle the things that didn’t by eliminating them and substituting something new.
- Adjust – Constantly fine-tune and tweak your best practices throughout the season as needed.
I want to wish you, your family, and your respective team much success. Make this an exciting and enjoyable football season!

How Do You Strengthen Your Marriage?
By · Comments
My husband and I recently took a six day romantic vacation to beautiful Oahu, Hawaii. We packed up and sent the kids away to a week long overnight camp so we could enjoy some quality ”Husband & Wife Time.”
We also attended the Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) Annual Couples Getaway at The Cove in Asheville, NC. These were both special times we set aside to get closer to God and to each other.
Although we were not scheduled speakers at the FCA couples getaway, we were asked to share our story at one of the sessions. Judging from the raving feedback, I must say we make quite an awesome speaking team.
Coach Les Steckel (FCA President) and his awesome wife Chris Steckel used the analogy of two figure skaters to talk about the three things marriages need:
- Teamwork – two people working together
- Timing – two people synchronized to perform as one
- Trust – two people supporting and balancing one another’s vulnerabilities
We had the opportunity to fellowship with other married couples and left the getaway recharged and refreshed. Most importantly, we enjoyed a couple of quiet nights alone in a cozy room with no TV. It turned out to be a mountain top experience in more ways than one!
I want to encourage you to plan to do something special to strengthen your marital relationship. Allow your marriage to be a model to demonstrate that marriages are meant to last forever.

What Does It Take To Win?

Welcome to my new blog. I’m hopeful all is well with you and your family. Things have been pretty exciting for me. This past season my husband’s football team (Prairie View Panthers) went 9-1 and on December 12th (my birthday), became the 2009 SWAC Champions!
Back in 2004, when we relocated our family (a teenager in middle school and two toddlers in pull-ups) to Texas from Maryland, we set our sights on winning a championship. Needless to say, our journey has been far from easy. We’ve all experienced a few blocks and fumbles along the way, but we continued to work together as a team and made it to the end zone together. We finally accomplished our goal of becoming a ”Championship Family.”
I want to encourage you to continue to be a devoted football wife and mother no matter what challenges come your way. Trust me, it’s all worth it!
